Banner Blog

One thing I have come to terms with, being in Ad World, is that there is SO MUCH WORK IN BANNERS!!
At first, I was turning my nose up at this, but I soon realised that the many restrictions, such as 25k file sizes and the often tiny size of the canvas produces some really interesting creative solutions and is a great way to really fine tune your animation skills.

Enough banging on from me, but Banner Blog houses many terrific creatives, as well as job available in the industry, including an Interactive Designers' position at Clemenger...Check it out...

Animation 101- #1 Getting started

(Today!)Wednesday 20 June 5.15pm
Where: ACMI (Festival Club)

This is part 1 of a series of free short talks brought to you by the Melbourne International Animation Festival.

Chris Pahlow and Steph Brotchie are members of ‘D.I.Y. ART’ a small artistic collective. Together they have produced a series of independent films without any funding or practical technical support including “Fraught” which is playing in competition. Using examples from their earlier films, they will address the ways in which the absence of budget and/or industry experience forces independent filmmakers to develop new ways of story-telling and invent new economic animation and filmic techniques to convey their ideas.

Head over to ACMI... you’ll find the Festival Club at the bottom of the escalators just inside the Flinders St entrance.

FREE!!

I feel...

Interesting web project by Jonathan Harris & Sepandar Kamvar…

"Since August 2005, We Feel Fine has been harvesting human feelings from a large number of weblogs. Every few minutes, the system searches the world's newly posted blog entries for occurrences of the phrases "I feel" and "I am feeling". When it finds such a phrase, it records the full sentence, up to the period, and identifies the "feeling" expressed in that sentence (e.g. sad, happy, depressed, etc.). Because blogs are structured in largely standard ways, the age, gender, and geographical location of the author can often be extracted and saved along with the sentence, as can the local weather conditions at the time the sentence was written. All of this information is saved. The result is a database of several million human feelings, increasing by 15,000 - 20,000 new feelings per day."
